Jellyfish – There Are Many Types

There are many types of creatures living in seas and oceans, but it is a fact that one the most commonly seen sea creatures it the jellyfish which is also named medusa. However the term medusa should be used to point the last years of the life of the jellyfish, but medusa is the most widely spread word for jellyfish. Although jellyfishes are beautiful and attractive they may possess a threat to people due to their stinging abilities. If you touch a jellyfish you will probably be injected with venom which depending on the jellyfish may cause no pain or discomfort. However there are more deadly jellyfishes from which if you get stung you may even die of the poison running through your organism.

Jellyfishes are maybe the most attractive sea creatures. They don’t only attract with their abstract forms, but also with the variety of colors in which they’re colored. The color effect on the jellyfish is caused from the fluorescent chemicals which they have flowing through their body. Those chemicals react and cause them to be seen in different hues and colorizations depending on the given situation they’re into. Some jellyfishes use their colorizing ability to attract their own species so that they can multiply or may also use that ability to frighten enemies. The proportions of the materials that make a jellyfish is pretty strange – they are made of 10% jelly substance and 90% water and that is the reason why they’re named jellyfish. It is pretty interesting, isn’t it?

Jellyfishes vary a lot in size – from the small jellyfishes with body diameter of 1-2cm to the vast sized jellyfish giants which can reach a diameter up to 2-3m and tentacle length of 30-35m. Tiburonia granrojo is one of the biggest jellyfish species known to man. And not only it is big, but it also colored. The Tiburonia granrojo is usually vivid red colored, but depending on the age the red hues may vary. However the Tiburonia granrojo has only a huge body, its tentacles are usually much shorter compared to those of other jellyfish species, but the tentacles are still long enough for capturing prey. The Tiburonia granrojo feeds mainly on plankton and small fishes.

Along the Californian coast line we can find another interesting representative of the jelly fish species and this is the Purple striped jellyfish. The name of that jellyfish comes from its color and decoration. The purple striped jellyfish is usually purple most of is lifetime and gets the dark purple stripes in the latest part of its lifetime. However in its early age the Purple striped jellyfish doesn’t have stripes and its color is dark pink.

It would take us thousands of pages to describe all the amazing jellyfishes which inhabits the Earths oceans and seas, but those two species are enough to give you an idea how beautiful and remarkable creatures jellyfishes. Of course you are not obligated to go to an ocean to see a jellyfish. They are also probably kept captive in your city aquarium so if you are not a man of adventure you can always go to the city aquarium and enjoy the beauty and majesty of the jellyfishes.
